Presence Resurrection Chapel

The original Chapel located in the Presence Health Resurrection Medical Center (Now Amita) burned down from an electrical malfunction. The Chapel was considered to be a high priority of the Hospitals healing and faith doctrine. Instead of restoring the Chapel to the way it was before, Corporate decided to combine the insurance settlement with a pool of donations to improve the Chapel. The project included three main components:

  • The demolition of the existing chapel and preservation of the religious artwork that survived the fire.
  • Installation of Terrazzo floors, marble liturgical furnishings, cast plaster letters with gold leaf, and a Water Font.
  • Non-denominational Worship Space located in the space  previously used as the choir loft.

Despite its adjacency to maternity ward the Chapel is not planned for use in Baptisms. The Hospital requested a Font of water so that it could be blessed and used by guests. Our main concern was ensuring that it would be kept sanitary. The pump was set to constantly cycle water out of the bowl where it passed through a medical grade filter before re-circulating.

The non-denominational Worship Space was designed for use by any member of the hospital staff. The space includes a changing area, sink, closet, and floor roll storage. This quiet space is designed to let medical staff of all backgrounds worship in peace.

  • Project Cost: $2,700,000
  • Site Location: Chicago, IL
  • Completion Date: 2017
