The main priorities of this expansion include a larger worship space for enhanced liturgy and seating, a larger narthex for gathering, and more offices. Other priorities of the parish include elevator access to the lower level and accessible toilet rooms and meeting rooms. The solution that best responded to the programmatic and budgetary needs of the parish was a three part project that entailed an addition to the worship space, an addition for offices and a remodeling the existing narthex. The proposed design responds to the existing structure, is sensitive to the interior functions and compliments existing forms, shapes and massing. This approach results in a design that integrates the additions with the existing construction so as to appear as though it was conceived as one building.
