Ashburn Baptist Church Memorial
The Memorial to Ruth V. Lyons was commissioned by Pastor Vernon Lyons to commemorate the passing of his wife. It stands as the Church Sign and a beacon of light. The construction of the Memorial is composed of three main components:
- The metal Spire with engraved limestone base and 3 LED RGB spotlights. Half of the metal fins are removable for maintenance.
- The 3 Form Acrylic sign with Limestone base and LED night lights. The electronic equipment is accessible through a hidden panel on the back of the sign.
- The Com Ed power drop from the adjacent pole which runs to the transformer within the base of the sign.
After aesthetic considerations the Owner only wanted two things: visibility from the road and visibility at night. We accomplished this by pushing the sign as close to the set back as possible and by increasing the letter size until it could be read by a passing car.
The manufacturing of the metal spire proved to be the most challenging aspect of the project. The precision nature and flawless finish required for the final product meant that a stainless steel specialist was needed. Ultimately the skill and craft of the final product matched the drawings with very few compromises and we learned from our coordination with the stainless steel engineers.
